The Australian Cancer Plan (the Plan) is a 10-year reform agenda for the whole Australian cancer community. Implementation of an ambitious national framework such as this requires leadership and collaboration across the entire cancer control sector. Cancer Australia invites partners from across the sector to consider their contribution to this national reform agenda and commit to actions to assist in the delivery of the Plan’s goals.
To support the involvement of partners in implementation of the Plan, Cancer Australia is:
The Australian Government is committed to improving cancer outcomes for all Australians and to supporting implementation of the Plan. The Australian Government’s responsibilities include developing new strategies and policies requiring national leadership, and building on existing programs, where appropriate, to ensure they are closely aligned with the Plan.
Stakeholders are invited to consider how their activities contribute to implementation of the Plan’s actions, and to keep Cancer Australia informed of their progress. Examples of activities needed to implement each Action are in the Explanatory Text for each Action in the Plan.
We encourage stakeholders to:
A Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (the Framework) has been developed and sets the foundation for routine monitoring and periodic evaluation of the Plan over its lifespan. The Framework is available for use by all stakeholders engaged in the Plan’s implementation.
Cancer Australia will monitor implementation activities across the sector, supported by active engagement with cancer control stakeholders, including Australian state and territory governments, and through partnership agreements. Information on the sector’s implementation activities will be shared through the Implementation Plan.
Cancer Australia will also lead the evaluation of the Plan’s progress at the 2- and 5- year timepoints. Following this process, allowing for adjustments or further actions to be introduced to ensure the Plan is on track to meet its 10-year ambitions. An evaluation will also be conducted at the 10-year mark to assess achievement of the six overarching Strategic Objectives.
The Implementation Plan lists cancer control activities for each 2-and 5- year action by the Australian Government.
Stakeholders are encouraged to use the Implementation Plan to:
The Implementation Plan is intended to be used as a tool to highlight the sector’s commitment to delivering the Plan’s actions and will contribute to Cancer Australia’s overarching monitoring and evaluation activities.
